Brachytherapy is a radical cancer treatment. Contaminated seeds or origins are placed in or close a tumour myself, providing powerful radiation treatment to a tumour while decreasing the radiation exposure in the neighbouring healthy tissues. The term “brachy” is Greek for dwarf distance. Brachytherapy is radiation medicine given at a short-range: localized, specific, and high-tech.
How Does HDR Brachytherapy Perform?
With High-Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy, thin catheters are opening located in a tumour. The catheters are then attached to an HDR afterloader. This instrument contains a particular highly radioactive iridium grain at the end of a wire. The pellet is driven into each of the catheters one by one supporting computer control.
The computer controls how long the grain stays in each catheter (dwell time), and where onward the catheter it should delay to release its distribution (dwell positions). With several well-placed catheters in a tumour are used to increase the fight against cancer, HDR brachytherapy can present a very precise treatment that takes only a few minutes. After a series of treatments, the catheters are removed, and there are no poisonous roots left in the bones.
Brachytherapy at CTCA
Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) provides brachytherapy for many types of cancer. Some of the tumours CTCA experts treat with brachytherapy are:
Head and neck cancers
Brachytherapy has performed well and most of the people have recovered from cancer after getting treatment from this process. In Pakistan, most of the people are getting free treatment from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital. Which was started by Imran Khan in the name of the mother? Now many patients are happy after getting free cancer treatment from world-class doctors. Imran Khan is a real champion now he is starting cancer hospital in different cities of Pakistan.
Cancer treatment is less expensive in Pakistan. If we compare it with other countries of the world like the USA, UK, Germany still they provide expensive treatment. But Pakistan has lots of practice after a grand work which was started by Imran Khan at the end of the 19th century.
